چکیده

One of the most widely used samplers in practice is the component-wise MetropolisHastings (CMH) sampler that updates in turn the components of a vector spaces Markov chain using accept-reject moves generated from a proposal distribution. When the target distribution of a Markov chain is irregularly shaped, a ‘good’ proposal distribution for one part of the state space might be a ‘poor’ one for another part of the state space. We consider a component-wise multiple-try Metropolis (CMTM) algorithm that can automatically choose a better proposal out of a set of proposals from different distributions. The computational efficiency is increased using an adaptation rule for the CMTM algorithm that dynamically builds a better set of proposal distributions as the Markov chain runs. The ergodicity of the adaptive chain is demonstrated theoretically. The performance is studied via simulations and real data examples.

Acceleration of the Multiple-Try Metropolis algorithm using antithetic and stratified sampling

The Multiple-Try Metropolis is a recent extension of the Metropolis algorithm in which the next state of the chain is selected among a set of proposals. We propose a modification of the Multiple-Try Metropolis algorithm which allows for the use of correlated proposals, particularly antithetic and stratified proposals. The method is particularly useful for random walk Metropolis in high dimensio...

Interacting multiple try algorithms with different proposal distributions

We propose a new class of interacting Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms designed for increasing the efficiency of a modified multiple-try Metropolis (MTM) algorithm. The extension with respect to the existing MCMC literature is twofold. The sampler proposed extends the basic MTM algorithm by allowing different proposal distributions in the multiple-try generation step. We exploit the s...

Automated Computational Inference Engine for Bayesian Source Reconstruction: Application to Some Detections/Non-detections Made in the CTBT International Monitoring System

We address the inverse problem of source reconstruction from a Bayesian perspective. Bayesian probability theory provides a natural and logically consistent (principled) approach for source reconstruction. To facilitate Bayesian source reconstruction, we develop an automated computational inference engine for efficient sampling from the potentially complex source parameter (or hypothesis) space...

High-dimensional posterior exploration of hydrologic models using multiple-try DREAM(ZS) and high-performance computing

[1] Spatially distributed hydrologic models are increasingly being used to study and predict soil moisture flow, groundwater recharge, surface runoff, and river discharge. The usefulness and applicability of such complex models is increasingly held back by the potentially many hundreds (thousands) of parameters that require calibration against some historical record of data. The current generat...
